Eastern AA: CMR boys, Billings West girls claim division championships

BUTTE – A wild weekend came to a close at Butte High for the Eastern AA divisional championships on Saturday.

Great Falls CMR outlasts Bozeman 63-53

The boys championship featured No. 1 seed Great Falls CMR and No. 3 seed Bozeman, with the Rustlers prevailing to win the division title 63-53. CMR was led by Garrison Rothwell, who dropped 18 points, five rebounds and three steals. Sam Vining had 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals. The Hawks were led by Mack Anderson, who had 18 points and added eight rebounds. Robbie Simpson finished with 12 points, four rebounds and two steals. Bozeman will play Helena in the first round of the State AA tournament in Billings and CMR will play Glacier.

Billings West hangs on to beat Billings Senior 41-38

For the girls championship game, it was a matchup between No. 1 Billings West and No. 2 seed Billings Senior. West led most of the way and — while Senior was able to pull within two points in the final minute — held on at the end to claim a 41-38 victory. The Lady Bears were led by Ambreya Windy Boy, who finished with 12 points and three steals. The Lady Broncs were led by Ellie Ostermiller’s nine points, four assists, one block and one steal. Kola Bad Bear finished with eight points, 10 rebounds, two blocks, and one steal. Both teams will head to the state tournament in Billings.

For the consolation games, the Great Falls High boys defeated Billings Senior 53-47 and the CMR girls defeated Bozeman 42-39. All four teams will head on to play in state.
