Northern B girls: Rocky Boy survives overtime, will play Wolf Point for divisional title

Wolf Point 45, Fairfield 38

Three Wolf Point players scored in double figures and the Wolves girls downs defending Class B champion Fairfield 45-38 to advance to the Northern B championship game in Cut Bank.

Semarah Wells scored 11 points for Wolf Point with Mary Bighorn and Abby Juve each adding 10 points. Juve also recorded 10 rebounds for the Wolves.

Kaitlyn Jones led Fairfield with 12 points and 14 rebounds and Naemi Wipf scored nine points.

The Wolves will advance to Saturday’s Northern B championship in Cut Bank and will face District 1B champion Rocky Boy.

Rocky Boy 71, Poplar 70 (OT)

The Rocky Boy girls battled back from a seven-point halftime deficit to force overtime and eventually prevail over Poplar 71-70, punching their ticket to the Northern B championship.

Sean Henry scored 22 points and swiped five steals to lead the Morning Stars with Adrienne Gopher adding 20 points and four steals and Jaylynn Mitcher recording a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Imani Bighorn stuffed the stat sheet for Poplar with 23 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks. Chloe Belton scored 16 points for the Indians and Alleen Russell added nine points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

Turnovers were the difference in the game with Poplar coughing the ball up 28 times compared to just 15 for Rocky Boy.

The Morning Stars trailed 43-36 entering the fourth quarter but outscored Poplar 20-13 in the final frame and took an eight-point lead with 1:26 left in the game. Poplar battled back with eight straight to end regulation tied at 56.

Rocky Boy won the extra period 15-14 for the win. The Morning Stars will face Wolf Point in a battle of district champions Saturday night at 8 p.m.
