Western AA Girls: Dominant performances from Capital and Helena High

HELENA – Both Helena High and Helena Capital dominated their opponents Thursday night in the opening round of the Western AA girls basketball divisional tournament.

Paige Aasved scored a game-high 14 points for the defending champion Bengals in a 71-24 win over Missoula Hellgate in the opening round. Jamie Pickens added 10 points and six rebounds, while Kamden Hilborn added 10 points and eight assists as Helena High advances to meet rival Helena Capital on Friday.

The Lady Bruins breezed past Missoula Big Sky 63-13, as all 12 players scored in the contest. Freshman Dani Bartsch had a game-high 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while senior Taylor Sullivan added five points and 10 boards in the win.

The opening game of the tournament saw crosstown between Kalispell programs, where Glacier earned a 30-20 win over Flathead. Ellie Stevens had 12 points and seven rebounds in the win.
