LAUREL – Melstone is heading to the Class C boys state basketball tournament after defeating Bridger 52-36 in the Southern C challenge game on Monday night.
The Broncs jumped out to an 8-point halftime lead and never allowed the Scouts to get closer than 6 in the second half as they quickly shut the door on any comeback hopes.
Melstone’s defense was the difference in this one. The Broncs forced 19 turnovers and held Bridger to 31% shooting without a three-point make.
On the offensive end, Melstone shot 62% from beyond the arc and 40% overall.
Brody Grebe led the Broncs with 23 points and 5 assists, while Thomas DeJaegher added 10 points on 4-for-4 shooting.
Carson Roberts posted a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds for Bridger.
Melstone will open the state tournament on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. against Scobey.
