Heart Butte, Sunburst boys advance to Northern C championship

Heart Butte 64, Chinook 60

Riley Spoonhunter exploded for 35 points, nine rebounds and five steals to lead the Heart Butte Warriors to a thrilling 64-60 win over District 9C champion Chinook in the Northern C boys basketball semifinal round. The Sugarbeeters jumped out to an early lead, stretching it to 10 points in the second quarter before Heart Butte chipped away and cut it to 29-28 at halftime. Shylon Spoonhunter added 18 points for Heart Butte. Cord Schneider had 21 points and nine rebounds to lead Chinook, and Isaac Bell added 20 points and nine rebounds.

Sunburst 81, Great Falls Central 66

Treyton Pickering had another monster game, posting 35 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in an 81-66 win over District 10C foe Great Falls Central in Thursday’s semifinal round. The Refiners led just 58-56 after three quarters but exploded in the fourth, outscoring the Mustangs 23-10 to set up an all-10C championship rematch with the Heart Butte Warriors on Friday night. Dakota Stock added 19 points for the Refiners. Noah Ambuehl led GFCC with 24 points and nine rebounds. Wyatt Walters scored 17.
