CONRAD – It’s been a good year for Shelby Coyotes fans. The football team played in the Class B state championship game, and now the boys basketball team has won the District 1B championship after a 57-46 win over Rocky Boy in Conrad on Saturday.

The teams split the meetings during the regular season, so, naturally, Saturday’s game went back and forth the entire way until the Coyotes pulled away at the end. Shelby was led by Aaron White, who finished the game with a game-high 25 points.

For the Coyotes, it was a sigh of relief. But the season is not over yet as divisionals now await.

“Our kids are resilient, but Rocky Boy is a really good team. I think that was their third loss this year, but they kept coming at us and we knew they would,” said Shelby head coach Tom Reynolds. “But I’m proud of my kids the way they came through with a plan, stayed with it and just kept believing.”

“It’s been a goal of ours just to get that championship trophy. We watched that previous Shelby team win it when we were second graders,” said Shelby senior TJ Reynolds. “That’s just been our goal to try and do the same thing they did.”

Shelby and Rocky Boy will both head to the Northern B divisional tournament in Glasgow beginning on Feb. 22.
