Boys basketball power polls: Lewistown, Anaconda continue climbs

Great Falls CMR finally brought some stability to the Class AA rankings in the MontanaSports.com boys basketball power polls.

The Rustlers earned a weekend sweep of Billings Skyview and Bozeman to hold on to the No. 1 ranking. In fact, the top three held court, with Missoula Sentinel and Great Falls High maintaining their rankings. Kalispell Flathead dropped from it’s No. 4 ranking after suffering two losses, so Billings Senior is back in the top five.

The biggest winner on the week, though, was Class A Lewistown. The Eagles handled Livingston to claim the Central A’s regular-season title and then knocked off Billings Central, which was ranked second last week. Lewistown climbs to third in this week’s rankings, behind Hamilton, which is still unbeaten, and Hardin. The Rams dropped to fourth, one spot ahead of Butte Central, which had Hamilton on the ropes in the Southwestern A district championship.

The top-ranked favorites solidified their statuses in Classes B and C: Bigfork wrapped up its undefeated regular season and Arlee cruised to another district championship. Three Forks was the only ranked team in either class to suffer a loss, so the Wolves dropped out of Class B’s top five. Anaconda moved up to No. 4, and Shelby is back in at fifth.

Manhattan Christian, Melstone, Scobey and Heart Butte all won their district titles to keep pace with Arlee in the Class C poll.
