BELGRADE – The two top teams in District 5B will meet for the third time this season on Saturday. This time, it’s in the girls basketball district championship game.
Undefeated Three Forks will face Townsend after both advanced from their semifinal games on Friday. The Wolves defeated Big Timber 73-49 and the Bulldogs posted a 36-26 win over Jefferson.
Three Forks looked the part of a Class B state championship contender on Friday. Kyle Olson was made four of five 3-point attempts and recorded a team-high 28 points. Shainy Mack added 18 points and seven rebounds, while Morgan Allen put up 17 points in the win. Three Forks shot an impresive 48.9 percent from the floor.
Jaylea Lunceford and Madilyn Emter led the way for the Herders with 11 points each. Sydney Prather recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Townsend struggled early against Jefferson, scoring only three points in the first quarter. But the Bulldogs held Jefferson to seven in that span and used defense to claw back. Now the Bulldogs will face Three Forks once again on Friday night.
History favors the Wolves, who have won the other two meetings this year.
