HAMILTON – Hamilton’s girls basketball team had lost only one game all year. Butte Central’s girls are always a threat in the conference. But Friday, they both lost in the Southwest A semifinals.
No. 4-seed Frenchtown pulled off the upset over the hosting Broncs, 49-41. The underdog Broncs led 10-5 after the first quarter, 21-11 at halftime, and never let Hamilton come back. Alivia Williams paced the win with 16 points.
Third-seeded Dillon then took down the No. 2 Maroons in a very close 46-43 semifinal. The Beavers trailed for the first half, but came alive to take a 35-27 lead into the fourth quarter. Butte Central made it interesting, but couldn’t come all of the way back. Dillon’s star Brynley Fitzgerald scored 19 points in the win.
Dillon and Frenchtown will now battle for the Southwest A title at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night.
