PABLO – The top seeds fought all season to earn an advantage heading into the District 14C girls basketball tournament. But it didn’t help enough in the semifinals on Friday, as the girls from Charlo and St. Regis shocked Arlee and Plains in Pablo.
Third-seeded Charlo defeated No. 2 Arlee 46-24 in the first semi. Charlo had built a double-digit lead by halftime, and the Scarlets never threatened down the stretch. Kaitlin Cox paced the Vikings with 14 points.
Later, fifth-seeded St. Regis pulled off an even bigger upset, taking down top-seeded Plains 44-36. St. Regis only led 14-11 at halftime, but pulled away in the fourth quarter. The Tigers’ Emma Hill scored a team-high 12 points.
Charlo and St. Regis will meet in the 14C championship at 7:45 p.m. Saturday.
