LAUREL – The Laurel Locomotives overcame a sluggish start to defeat Sidney, 46-40, in Eastern A boys basketball action on Monday night.
The Locos trailed by one after the first quarter, but a second-quarter run gave Laurel a nine-point lead at 21-12 and it would never trail again.
A 3-pointer by Sidney’s Max Peters pulled the Eagles within 27-24 with five minutes left in the thirrd quarter, but Gabe Leischner responded with back-to-back 3-pointers to increase the Laurel lead to 11 points.
The Locos held serve from that point on for their ninth victory on the season.
Laurel is now 4-4 in conference play. Sidney fell to 2-6.
