BELT – Riley Donaldson scored 17 points and the Denton-Geyser-Stanford boys basketball team overcame an early deficit for a 54-50 win over Belt, moving into solo first place in District 8C.
The Bearcats trailed 14-4 after the first quarter but rallied with 21 points in the second to trail 32-25 at half. DGS (15-1, 10-1) outscored Belt 29-18 in the second half to sweep the regular-season series with the Huskies (12-5, 9-2).
Kordell Carpenter added 11 points for the Bearcats, with Rhet Woodhall scoring 10. Keagan Stroop led Belt with 17 points, and Brendan Wing added 13.
In the girls game, undefeated Belt (17-0, 11-0) stayed perfect with a 63-18 win over DGS (7-9, 3-8). Husky senior Dani Urick led all scorers with 20 points as Belt built a 44-10 lead at halftime. Ryan Schraner joined Urick in double figures with 10 points.
Cassidy Randel led the Bearcats with 10 points.
