HELENA – Some of the best gymnasts from as far as Idaho and Wyoming gathered in Helena on Friday for the 39th Annual Mount Helena Open at the Lewis and Clark County Fair Grounds. More than 10 teams of the top 400 gymnasts from different age and skill levels will all be competing against one another — and putting the skills they work hard on — to a real test.
“It’s one of my favorite events of the whole year,” said Mount Helena Gymnastics coach Denny Allen. “The reason we train — the average gymnast that is at the upper levels right now trains 16-30 hours a week in the gym, and this is the culmination of all that training. This is where we prove ourselves. We validate what we’ve been doing in our home gyms every day of the week, so on Saturday or Friday or whenever it is we come in and find out what kind of progress we’ve been making in our training.”
The meet stated Friday and goes through Saturday at the Lewis and Clark County Fair Grounds.
