ENNIS – Josie Hokanson scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Ennis Mustangs girls basketball team past the visiting Jefferson Panthers, 50-45, on Thursday.

Trailing by five entering the fourth quarter, Ennis put the clamps down defensively. The Mustangs’ full-court pressure forced Jefferson into multiple turnovers that led to points on the other end.

Whitney McKitrick scored all eight of her points in the fourth quarter, including a critical steal leading to free throws with under two minutes to play.

Jefferson exacted revenge on the boys side. Both teams came out hot early on, but the defenses clamped down over the final three quarters. Jefferson made its free throws down the stretch to hold off the Mustangs, 56-48.
