List: Montana high school basketball 30-point club

Treyton Pickering may be looking at a college football future, but the Sunburst Refiner multi-sport standout is quickly becoming one of the best scorers in Montana high school basketball.

Each week, MTN Sports will update a list of the state’s “30-point club,” showcasing the performances of 30 points or more throughout the season, and Pickering became only the second prep athlete to score 40 or more points multiple times this season (as reported to sports@ktvh.com) when he tallied a 42-point performance in a win over Augusta on Saturday. Back in December, he scored 45 points in a win over Valier, tied for second on the boys basketball 30-point club with Whitehall’s Max Feight. But Pickering’s weekend began Friday with a 31-point effort against Valier, etching his name on the MontanaSports.com 30-point club two more times. Pickering has the Refiners within reach of a conference title in District 10C.

History was made in Anaconda on Saturday evening, when Montana Grizzly football commit Braxton Hill broke the program’s all-time boys basketball scoring record. Hill’s 33-point outing, 16 in the final quarter, moved him past Ed Kalafat for the No. 1 ranking in the boys program. Ali Hurley holds the school’s all-time scoring record with 1,698 points, 82 ahead of Hill after the weekend.

Danny Hoisington and Thompson Falls fell on the wrong side of history in that contest against Hill and the Copperheads, but Hoisington once again crossed the 30-point threshold. He poured in a game-high 36 points in the 80-75 defeat, the fourth time his name has been added to the prestigious list.

Hill wasn’t the only Anaconda star to fill the stat sheet on Saturday evening, as Sydnie Peterson scored 34 for the Anaconda girls. Southwest Montana was the hot spot for scorers over the weekend, with Dillon’s Brynley Fitzgerald scoring 32 points against Frenchtown.

Arlee all-state post Alyssia Vanderburg was honored last Thursday on her home court after totaling 1,000 career points. The junior reached the milestone in a win at Valley Christian the weekend prior. Saturday evening, she added 35 more points in a lopsided win over St. Regis. Vanderburg has reached 30 points or more four times this season and hopes to lead the Scarlets back to the Class C state championship game. Arlee fell to Belt in last year’s title contest.

The list below showcases some of the top-scoring performances of the season. Please encourage your coaches and administrators to send statistics to sports@ktvh.com at the conclusion of games. If a 30-point performance is missing from the list, please also send it to sports@ktvh.com.
