THREE FORKS — The Three Forks Lady Wolves are enjoying an impressive start to the season, but this is nothing new to Three Forks.

The team can thank Mike Sauvageau for that.

Sauvageau earned career win No. 700 in a road win over Columbus on Friday. When the Wolves returned home Saturday to face Big Timber, the 21-year headman was recognized for his achievements before the game.

This is his 32nd year as a basketball coach, as he spent his first 11 years running the Harrison basketball program. Of those 32 seasons, he has been the school’s athletic director for 29. Sauvageau’s teams have won 17 conference titles, 11 district crowns, and six divisional championships. He has coached one state championship outfit, placed third on three occasions, and has led the Wolves to 10 state tournaments.

The Montana Coaches’ Association (MCA) has named him coach of the year and he has been nominated five times. The MCA has also named him the all-class athletic director of the year, and he was inducted into the Association’s Hall of Fame in 2017.

The Lady Wolves defeated Big Timber on Saturday, giving him win No. 701. His team will hit the floor again on Jan. 26 at Jefferson.
