Girls basketball power polls: Bigfork vaults up Class B rankings

The top-ranked teams held court in most of Montana’s high school girls basketball action last week. In fact, three classifications featured no changes in the MontanaSports.com power polls from week to week and all four No. 1 teams held on to their top spots. Helena High, Havre, Three Forks and Belt are still the top-ranked teams in their respective classes.

But Class B did see some changes, and Bigfork was the biggest beneficiary. The Valkyries earned an impressive 67-59 win over previously unbeaten Florence on Saturday. That win, couple with Poplar’s loss to Harlem, vaulted the Vals all the way up to No. 2 in the Class B poll. Bigfork’s lone loss this season came against defending Class A champion Columbia Falls.

Poplar, which was ranked fifth last week, fell out of the top five as Florence slipped from fourth to fifth. The losses by Poplar and Florence leave Three Forks as the only Class B girls team with an undefeated record.
