MISSOULA – Class AA Bozeman held off Class A Havre to win the 2018 Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic wrestling tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks scored 238 points to the Blue Ponies’ 200.
Tayt Rogers, Leif Schroeder, Chance McLane and Keegan Mulhill each captured first-place finishes at the prestigious tournament, which brings in programs from around the northwest.
Rogers earned a 6-4 decision over Luke Grisafi of Washington at 103 pounds, while Schroeder, a defending state champion, pinned Hamilton’s Michael Golden in 5:31 at 126 pounds. McLane’s 6-5 decision against Kyle Gordon of Missoula Big Sky was good for the 145 pound championship, while Mulhill won via major decision, a 12-3 victory over Parker Adler of Polson in the 152-pound championship.
Havre earned an individual title from star Martin Wilkie in the 138-pound championship, gathering a technical fall against Reese Karst of Deer Lodge. The Blue Ponies captured a runner-up finish from Mason Dionne at 160 pounds. Dionne suffered a pin by Great Falls High’s Jordan Komac in 5:21. 205-pound Tyler Schaub was narrowly defeated 8-7 against Hunter Gregerson of Washington. Gregerson was the lone champion from outside of Montana.
Kalispell Flathead finished fourth in the team standings, with Tucker Nadeau leading the charge. The senior captured the 182-pound title, 8-3 over Wyatt Blythe of Lewistown, while heavyweight Michael Lee won at 285. The Eagles of Lewistown saw Cooper Birdwell win at 113 and Alex Wickens defeated Flathead’s Payton Hume at 170.
Other winners included Frenchtown’s Jake Bibler at 120 pounds and John Mears of Belgrade at 132.
