MISSOULA – Missoula Sentinel finished off a doubleheader sweep over crosstown rival Missoula Hellgate thanks to a big comeback by the Spartan boys. The Spartans defeated the Knights 47-40 in a battle of teams with only a single loss so far this season.

Hellgate led 9-2 after the first quarter and led until the fourth quarter thanks to 26 points by Rollie Worster and a matchup zone defense the Spartans couldn’t solve.

But the Spartans caught fire in the second half. Sam Beighle hit several deep 3-pointers, including one with six minutes left to give the Spartans the lead. He scored 21 points.

In a tie game with less than three minutes left, Sentinel freshman Hayden Kolb hit another 3 to give Sentinel a 43-40 lead. Hellgate never scored again, and the Spartans made a few clutch free throws to win, 47-40.

In the earlier girls game, the Sentinel Spartans continued to dominate their Missoula competition. Sentinel held a huge halftime lead and cruised to a 59-24 victory over Hellgate behind 16 points by Jordyn Schweyen.
