BUTTE — The Butte High and Butte Central boys and girls traded blows in front of a large Civic Center crowd on Thursday night, as the two sides split bragging rights as city champions.

The Maroons handled the Bulldog boys in the second half after holding on to just a 24-17 lead at the half. Dan McCloskey’s 19 points helped propel Central to a 57-39 win.

The girls game was a much different story. A 13-point halftime lead for Central dissipated in the second half, as 19 second-half points from the Bulldogs’ Hailey Herron helped lead Butte to a 57-51 win. Herron scored 23 on the game, while Kloie Thatcher paced the Lady Maroons with 21 points.
