GREAT FALLS — A dominant defensive performance led Great Falls High (7-1, 2-0) to a 68-36 win over rival CMR (5-2, 1-1) in the first boys crosstown matchup of the season.

Blake Thelen led a balanced Bison attack with 15 points. Kyle Torgerson added 13 points, Kendall Kynett scored 10 to join his teammates in double digits.

Great Falls High led 21-9 after the first quarter and 31-22 at halftime. The Bison blew the game open in the third quarter, scoring 14 points and holding the Rustlers scoreless for a 45-22 advantage.

Sam Vining led the Rustlers with 10 points, eight of them coming in the fourth quarter.

Great Falls High has now won eight consecutive games in the crosstown rivalry dating back to 2015.

“I don’t think we’ve played that well on defense all year,” Torgerson said. “And I think (Tuesday) really showed what we can be and what we can play like.”

This was the only game scheduled this week for both teams. The CMR and Great Falls High girls will clash on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
