Sidney crowns 10, rolls to Eastern A divisional wrestling title

SIDNEY -- Sidney cruised to the team title at the Eastern A divisional wrestling meet on Saturday, scoring 387.5 points to outpace Laurel (225), Lewistown (213) and Miles City (208).

The Eagles, who have won the past three State A titles, had 16 wrestlers place in the top eight at the divisional tournament, including 10 individual champions. Gordon Knapp won at 103 pounds, Owen Lonski at 113, Zander Dean at 126, Jordan Darby at 138, Aden Graves at 152, Kade Graves at 160, Dylan Lutz at 170, Easton Hopes at 182, Riley Waters at 205 and Brodey Skogen at 285. Lonski (37-0), Waters (29-0) and Skogen (33-0) are undefeated on the season.

Laurel was second in the team race and also had 16 wrestlers record top-eight finishes on Saturday. Three Locomotives -- Tyler Emineth (152 pounds), Camden Johnson (160) and Connor Ulschak (205) -- placed second.

Thirteen wrestlers from Lewistown qualified for the State A tournament, which will be held next week at Miles City. The Golden Eagles are led by Cooper Birdwell, who improved to 40-0 with a divisional championship in the 132-pound bracket. Birdwell is aiming to become a four-time state champion this season. Wyatt Mager (120 pounds), Kason Olson (126), Keaton Potter (170) and Landon Farrar (182) added second-place finishes for Lewistown on Saturday.

Havre's Mick Chagnon and Miles City's Damian Leidholdt also won individual championships at 120 and 145 pounds, respectively. Full championship results are below.
