MISSOULA — On Thursday night the Missoula Hellgate Knights traveled across town to take on the Missoula Sentinel Spartans in a crosstown volleyball match. In the first set, Hellgate came out scoring with will. After the Knights took a comfortable 15-9 lead, the Spartans cruised back to take the first set, 25-22.

In the second set, both teams came out swinging. After two straight aces from Sheridan Schweyen swang the momentum for Sentinel, Hellgate battled back to tie the set at 20-all. Hellgate went on to score three straight to make it 23-20, but Sentinel scored three straight on their end to tie it at 23-23. And after a back-and-forth battle, the Spartans took the second set, 29-27.

In the third set, Hellgate battled tough but the Spartans ultimately had the momentum. Sentinel won the third set, 25-18, to earn the sweep over their crosstown rivals.

The Class AA playoffs begin next week, with four teams from the Western AA conference qualifying for the state tournament in Bozeman Nov. 14-16.
