FORT BENTON — Manhattan Christian stayed unbeaten after beating Fort Benton in four sets on Wednesday night. The unusual late-season inter-district match came about after each school dealt with schedule changes due to the coronavirus.
Fort Benton started with a back-and-forth 25-19 victory in the first set.
The Eagles, the defending Class C state champions, found their footing in the second set, responding with a 25-12 win. They kept it rolling in the third set with a 25-10 decision. Kiersten Van Kirk had 13 kills in the two sets.
In the fourth, Fort Benton found itself trailing again but came as close as 20-23 with an Abby Clark kill. However, Taylor Devries ended the match on an ace, and the Eagles kept their unblemished record intact.
Manhattan Christian moves to 16-0 on the season, while Fort Benton falls to 14-1.
