Southern B: Fast start paces Roundup girls; Colstrip moves on

BILLINGS -- The Roundup girls used an 18-3 run to start the game, holding off Three Forks 36-24 in the opening round of the Southern B divisional basketball tournament on Thursday. Colstrip defeated Whitehall 48-36 in the nightcap at First Interstate Arena at MetraPark.

Roundup 36, Three Forks 24

A fast start was enough to propel Roundup to the semifinals of the Southern B divisional, after the Panthers defeated Three Forks 36-24 on Thursday.

Roundup opened the game on an 18-3 run, including a 12-3 advantage after the first quarter. The Panthers never trailed in the contest.

Blythe Sealey led Roundup with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Brennan Larson and Chloe Cota chipped in with six points each.

Roundup held the Wolves to a rough 8-for-43 shooting night, just 18.6 percent, and gave up only two field goals in the first half. Breanna Bloch scored a team-high five points, while Kendall Lynn struggled on a 1-for-14 performance for Three Forks.

The Wolves made only three of 18 3-point attempts in the loss.

Colstrip 48, Whitehall 36

Colstrip used a 15-1 second-quarter to push past Whitehall in the final game of the Southern B divisional on Thursday.

Trailing by three after the first quarter, the Fillies outscored the Trojans by 14 in the second period to take a 23-12 lead into the halftime locker room. Colstrip added 25 second-half points, despite a slow third quarter, to hold on for the 48-36 win and advance to Friday's semifinal round.

Madison BigBack had a team-high 15 points, while Addison Casterline chipped in with 11 for Colstrip. Baily and Kya Egan had eight points apiece in the win.

Whitehall was led by Jada Clarkson's game-high 16 points.

The Fillies will meet Roundup in Friday's semifinal scheduled for 8 p.m. The winner will meet either Big Timber or Forsyth in Saturday's divisional championship game.

Whitehall and Three Forks square off in a loser-out contest at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
