BUTTE – Select Basketball, the largest high school basketball club program in Montana, has announced that they will be hosting a high school showcase event in Butte on Oct. 12-13, 2019.

And for the first time, there will be both men’s and women’s sessions available to players.

“This is the fourth year we’ve hosted our showcase in Butte and we are thrilled to now offer a women’s session to go along with our traditional boys session,” said Select Basketball director Clint Hordemann.

Select Basketball began in 1998 as a single team of 17U men’s basketball players that traveled to two tournaments in the summer. Since then, the program has grown to 22 teams that range from 14U-17U, compete in six highly competitive tournaments each year, and has helped hundreds of players move on to play at the college level.

Former players include Tres Tinkle, Riley Bradshaw, Brendan Howard and Rollie Worster.

This year, for the first time in the program’s history, Select will be operating a women’s program that will formulate multiple teams from 14U-17U and will travel in the spring and summer. The jump to the girls side comes after years of requests from parents, players and coaches.

“This has been a long time in the making,” said Select interim women’s director Andy Harrington. “We’ve been seriously contemplating this move for the last year and decided that the time was right to take the next step. The chance to work with the best female players in Montana was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up.”

Harrington was a player in the Select program when he was in high school and has been on the Select coaching staff since 2016. He is currently the head boys coach at Middleton (Idaho) High School and is actively recruiting a full-time director of the girls program. Harrington has strong Montana ties as his sister, Gabi Harrington, is currently a junior for the University of Montana Lady Griz.

The first showcase session for girls will be on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 4-6 p.m. at Butte High School. The second girls session will be on Sunday, Oct. 13 from 9-11 a.m. at Montana Tech.

The first session for boys will be on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 6-8 p.m. at Butte High School. The second boys session will be on Sunday, Oct. 13 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Montana Tech.

The sessions are for any girl or boy that is currently in the 8th-12th grades.

According to Hordemann, this is not just a chance to work out.

“Every year we have colleges from around the Northwest attend to work the camp and evaluate the players. Plus, for players that are interested in playing on a Select team in the spring or summer, it is a great way to learn more about how we operate, ask questions, and see if we are a good fit for your goals," Hordemann said.
