BUTTE — The Bartsch twins each scored in double figures as the Helena Capital girls basketball team rolled to a 44-27 Western AA win over Butte High on Thursday at Ross J. Richardson Memorial Gym.

The win moves the defending Class AA co-champion Bruins to 6-1 and keeps them one game behind conference-leading Missoula Hellgate. Butte (1-6) is still searching for its second win of the season after its opening win against Missoula Big Sky.

The Bruins' defense clamped down on Butte, which was led by 5 points from Pieper Joseph.

Over at the Maroon Activities Center, the Butte Central girls rolled their record to 8-1 with a non-conference victory over the Copperheads.

Delaney Hasquet scored a team-high 14 points and Amira Bolton and Sofee Thatcher each had 11 as the Maroons overcame an 18-16 halftime deficit.

The Copperheads, which have dropped three straight games after opening the season at 5-0, were led by a game-high 19 points from Mia Sullivan Sanders and 11 from Makena Patrick.
