District 8C: Belt boys, girls top Roy-Winifred to sweep 8C title matches

GREAT FALLS — The Belt Huskies ordered one championship, then made it a double on Saturday as both the boys and girls basketball teams beat Roy-Winifred to win championships at the District 8C tournaments in Great Falls. It was the 11th consecutive district championship for the Husky girls.

Belt 47, Roy-Winifred 34 (boys championship)

Aidan McDaniel scored 16 points, Bridger Vogl added 15 and the Husky defense held off Roy-Winifred in the second half, securing a 47-34 win to clinch the 8C title. Blake Donsbach led the Outlaws with nine points.

Belt will open the Northern C divisional on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. against Sunburst, the No. 3 seed out of the 10C. Roy-Winifred will play 9C runner-up Chinook on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Belt 47, Roy-Winifred 45 (girls championship)

The Belt girls made it 11 straight district championships (in 13 straight appearances) after hanging on against Roy-Winifred 47-45.

Shelby Paulson led a balanced Belt attack with 13 points, while Kylie Marquis scored 10. Olivia Geer scored 15 for Roy-Winifred.

Belt starts the Northern C divisional tournament against Valier on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m., while Roy-Winifred opens against Turner on Thursday at 7 p.m.
