Butte Central girls handle Dillon, maintain Southwest A lead

BUTTE — Avery Kelly led all scorers with 13 points and Amira Bolton added 9 as the Butte Central girls led from start to finish in a 40-28 Southwest A basketball win over Dillon on Saturday at the Maroon Activities Center.

With the win, Central (9-1 overall, 5-1 in the Southwest A) remained firmly atop the Southwest A. Corvallis (5-7, 4-3) is in second place and Hamilton (6-4, 3-3) is in third.

The Maroons' lone defeat of the season so far was a 40-32 loss at Frenchtown on Jan. 22.

Central led Dillon 10-7 after one quarter and 22-14 by halftime. The Beavers hung around to trail just 29-24 after the third quarter before the Maroons outscored them 11-4 in the final frame.

Delaney Hasquet added 6 points for the Maroons and Sofee Thatcher had 5. Dillon was led by 10 points from Ainsley Shipman, 9 from Lauryn Petersen and 6 from Jordyn Walker.

Central now heads into a four-game road trek beginning at Stevensville on Tuesday while Dillon hosts Frenchtown on Thursday.
