KALISPELL -- After five seasons as the head boys basketball coach at Kalispell Flathead, Ross Gustafson announced his resignation, according to a release from the Kalispell activities department.
Flathead finished the 2019-20 season with a 3-15 regular-season record, falling to elimination at the Western AA divisional tournament in Missoula in the team's first two games.
In five seasons, Gustafson guided the Braves to a 37-56 record, according to www.MTSportsMemories.com, qualifying for the Class AA state tournament during the 2016-17 season.
Gustafson is a Cut Bank native who continued his basketball career at Carroll College, landing in the Fighting Saints' athletic hall of fame last fall with fellow 2005-06 teammates.
Gustafson previously served as an assistant coach at Missoula Hellgate under former Carroll teammate Jeff Hays, then moved to Kalispell and was a Braves assistant for three seasons before taking the varsity job in 2015.
"Ross was able to make the state tournament in his second year," Kalispell activities director Bryce Wilson said in a release. "Ross is looking forward to new opportunities for himself and his family. He was devoted to working with players on and off the court."
"As we move forward, we will work to continue to strive on building a quality basketball program at Flathead High School," Wilson's release continued. "His work ethic, time commitment and dedication to the program were truly exemplary."
Kalispell Flathead will begin searching for Gustafson's replacement immediately, according to Wilson.
