BUTTE — It had been 10 long months since the Butte Central boys basketball team tasted victory. That drought ended on Thursday.

Dougie Peoples poured in a game-high 18 points and Bryan Holland added 10 as the defending Class A co-champions topped Three Forks 49-40 on at the Maroon Activities Center.

With the win, the Maroons (1-1 overall, 0-1 in Southwest A play) got their first win of the season in a non-conference tilt against the Wolves. Central fell to Dillon in the season opener for both teams on Saturday.

It was Central's first victory since March 13 of last year when the Maroons topped Browning in the State A semifinals to advance to a championship against Hardin that would ultimately be called off.

The Wolves trailed the entirety of the first half but battled back to tie the game at 34-34 heading into the fourth quarter before Central pulled away.

Three Forks (0-5) was led by 14 points from Owen Long and 10 from Austen Allen.

Central heads to Corvallis on Saturday while the Wolves host the Blue Devils on Tuesday.
