No. 11 University of Providence hockey downs Montana Tech 6-1

BUTTE — The No. 11 University of Providence Argos claimed a decisive 6-1 victory over the Montana Tech Orediggers on Friday night.

Leo Felt led all scorers as he tallied two first-period scores, in addition to tallying a pair of assists in the win. Trevor Checketts and Josh Larson also notched two assists in the win.

Less than a minute into play, the Argos opened up the scoring as Felt connected on a goal sent from Jeron Hirshfeld and Checketts at the 19:11 mark.

Felt notched his second score of the contest with less than three minutes remaining in the opening period on a puck delivered by Larson to give the Argos a 2-0 advantage at the first break.

The Orediggers got on the board in the second period, scoring a goal with slightly more than five minutes to go to cut the deficit in half, 2-1.

The Argos kicked things into gear in the final period. Kyler Mack handled a puck from Felt and Checketts to extend the Argos lead back to two, 3-1, at the 11-minute mark of the third period. Less than three minutes later, Parker Hansen netted an unassisted score to give the Argos a 4-1 lead with a little over eight minutes to go.

Cody Hendrickson notched another score for the Argos at the 6-minute mark as Larson and Felt tallied their second assists of the contest to put the Argos up by four, 5-1. Xander Pivovarnik added some insurance during the final minute of the game from Hanson and Josh Ihling to end the scoring at 6-1.

The Argos will finish their road trip Thursday as they travel to Bozeman to take on the Montana State Bobcats at 7 p.m. The Argos will then return to Great Falls on Saturday, Jan. 19 as they host Tech at 2 p.m.
