No. 13 University of Providence women cruise against San Diego Christian

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The No. 13 Argos (10-3) bounced back on Thursday with a huge win against San Diego Christian College (6-6) on Thursday, defeating the Hawks 67-38 to close out the day’s competition.

Kerstyn Pimperton led all scorers in the contest with 18 points, while also collecting two assists and a rebound. Emilee Maldonado and Kenedy Cartwright joined Pimperton in the double-digit scoring tallying 14 and 12 points, respectively. Molly Schmitz dominated the post as she pulled down 12 boards in the contest, while Parker Esary followed closely behind with 11. Eary narrowly missed a double-double as she knocked down nine points.

The Argos had a slow start as they battled with the San Diego Christian Hawks through four ties but were outscored by the Hawks 11-9 at the close of the opening 10 minutes.

The Hawks would tack on another three at the beginning of the second period, extending their lead to five, 14-9, but the Argos immediately responded over the following minute of click as Maldonado netted two threes to put the advantage back on the Argos side, 15-14. The Argos maintained the lead for the remainder of the half as they extended their lead to a five-point advantage at the buzzer, 24-19.

The Argos broke away in the second half as they outscored San Diego Christian 43-19. Over the first four minutes of the third period, the Argos and Hawks battled it out as they Hawks were able to reduce the deficit down to four, 32-28, but the that was as close as they would get. The Argos went on a 13-6 run to extend their lead to double digits to open the final period, 45-34.

The final 10 minutes were dominated by the Argos as they continued to extend their lead to more than 20 following a two from Pimperton with less than six minutes to play in the contest, 57-36. At the 27 second mark, a layup from Alicia Oatis put the Argos advantage over 30, 67-36, but a Hawk layup closed the game with a 29-point Argo win, 67-38.
