DICKINSON, N.D. – The Rocky Mountain College Battlin’ Bears swept a road doubleheader with Dickinson State Saturday night, as both the men’s and women’s programs reached 6-1 on the young season.
The women opened with a 65-45 win. Markaela Francis scored a team-high 20 on 8-of-11 shooting, to go along with nine rebounds. Kloie Thatcher played all 40 minutes and scored 10 points, with five assists and four rebounds. Alecia Chamberlain and Marissa Van Atta each added 10 points, as well.
Preseason Frontier Conference player of the year Jared Samuelson scored 19 to lead Rocky’s men to a 77-64 win in the nightcap. Samuelson was 6 of 12 from the field, and a perfect 6 for 6 at the line. Isaac Martel, meanwhile, was perfect from the field (6 for 6) on his way to 13 points. Satchel McDonald scored 11, while Danny Betcher added 10 and nine rebounds.
Both Rocky teams open conference play Thursday at home against MSU-Northern. The women tip at 5:30 p.m., with the men scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
