Rocky Mountain College men, women take team titles at Battlin’ Bears Invitational

BILLINGS — The No. 14 ranked Battlin’ Bears grabbed a first place finish at the Battlin’ Bears Invitational. The women’s golf program has now won every single Frontier Conference fall golf tournament.

Rocky finished two rounds with 597 strokes. The Battlin’ Bears carded 90 pars and 21 birdies. The team shot 304 in round one before shooting a 293 in round two.

“I am very proud of how our girls played today,” said head golf coach, Aaron Pohle. “They showed a lot of toughness down the stretch.”

Eryn Ellis earned individual medalist honors after shooting 2-under-par 140. Ellis finished the first day having shot 72. Her round two score of 68 was the lowest among the women’s teams at the tournament.

Ellis is just coming off a first place finish at the University of Providence Argo Invitational a week ago which earned her the Women’s Golfer of the Week honor for the Frontier Conference for this week.

“Very proud of Eryn on her second win this season,” said Pohle. “Very excited about where her game is right now.”

Hayden Flohr secured second place with an overall score of 145 after shooting 71 in round two.

Morgan O’Neil tied for fifth with an overall score of 152. Amanda Conner earned eighth place after finishing with a score of 158.

Anna DeMars shot two rounds of 80 to place her in 12th place.

The Battlin’ Bears will next play in Spokane, Wash. during the the Lilac Collegiate on Meadowwood Golf Course. That tournament will take place on Oct 8-9.

The No. 14 ranked Battlin’ Bears roared to an incredible first place finish during the Battlin’ Bears Invitational with a team score of 51-under-par 801.

Hosting the tournament, Rocky had five individuals in the top 10. The Battlin’ Bears record breaking performance also marks a sweep of every Frontier Conference fall golf tournament for the Battlin’ Bears.

“We had a great feeling coming into this event and had a lot of confidence coming off two previous wins,” said head golf coach, Aaron Pohle.

Reece Nilsen led the charge with an unbelievable score of 16-under-par 197. His round two score of 62 was the lowest at the event and the lowest for the Battlin’ Bears this season. He finished with a three stroke lead over second place, Providence’s Riley Lawrence.

“Very proud of Reece getting his first collegiate victory,” said Pohle. “This is something he has always wanted and we are very excited about where his game is currently.”

Colton Murphy finished in third after shooting 201. He shot 12-under-par with his lowest round being a 66 in the second round.

HoeTae Kim tied for fourth. Kim carded both rounds 67 for the first day and shot 68 in round three. He finished the invitational having shot 10-under-par 203.

Michael Tait and Mitchell Thiessen rounded out the Battlin’ Bears top ten finishers as they tied each other for eighth with an overall score of 205.

The Battlin’ Bears will next play in Spokane, Wash. during the the Lilac Collegiate on Meadowwood Golf Course. That tournament will take place on Oct 8-9.
