Rocky Mountain College men, women win Labor Day matches

BILLINGS – The Rocky Mountain College women’s soccer team was able to grab a 6-2 victory over Mid-America Christian Monday morning.

The Battlin’ Bears (3-0) were relentless on offense against the Evangels (1-2) and never wavered on their attack. Rocky was led by Lauryn Gamache who kick-started the Battlin’ Bears’ offensive firepower with her first goal in the 17th minute. Amber Pearson was next as she scored a goal off an assist from Lauren Cornwall in the 33rd minute. Gamache quickly followed and scored her second goal of the day one minute later. Tiara Duford added a goal of her own in the 50th minute. Shasta Grant found the back of the net with an assist from Pearson in the 53rd minute.

The Evangels managed to strike back in the 56th minute, but Gamache answered with her third and final goal just two minutes later. Mid-America Christian was able to secure their second goal in the 83rd minute, but unable to mount any sort of serious comeback.

Rocky had a 19-8 shot advantage over the Evangels.

The Battlin’ Bears will next play in Santa Barbara, Calif., against Westmont on September 8 at 3:30 p.m.

Later on Monday, Rocky’s men claimed a 4-0 victory over Mid-America Christian.

The Battlin’ Bears (3-1) finished the Labor Day weekend with another win and gave the Evangels (2-1) their first loss of the season.

Nolan Sherwood started the game by finding the back of the net in the 12th minute with an assist from Sky Swenson. Pablo Ferreira secured a goal of his own off an assist from Mason Luse in the 68th minute. Nolan Sherwood would nab another goal unassisted nine minutes later. Bilechi Sumali rounded out the Battlin’ Bears’ efforts with a goal in the 83rd minute.

Rocky will continue play in Billings on September 9 against Jamestown at 1 p.m. at Wendy’s Field.
