5 Rocky Mountain College athletes earn Frontier Player of the Week honors

BILLINGS – Five Rocky Mountain College student-athletes earned Frontier Conference Player of the Week honors.

Jacob Bakken earned Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for football. The senior quarterback from Wibaux, Mont. was instrumental in the Battlin’ Bears 51-7 victory over MSU-Northern. He led Rocky to victory as he passed for 315 yards and four touchdowns.

Daniella Russell earned Frontier Conference Attacker of the Week honors for women’s volleyball. The junior outside hitter from Red Lodge, Mont. helped the Battlin’ Bears secure four wins, including a win over No. 2 ranked Dordt, at the GoSarpy.com Labor Day Classic. “Dani had an inspirational weekend. Her athleticism shined through,” said volleyball head coach Laurie Kelly, who praised Russell’s performance.

Maia Wetzel earned the Red Lion women’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week honor for the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The sophomore goalkeeper from Billings, Mont. was a key part of the Battlin’ Bears defense as she secured nine saves over the course of the first two games of the season.

Sam Davidson earned the Red Lion men’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week honor for the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The sophomore forward from Stirling, Scotland scored three goals and added an assist in Rocky Mountain College’s win over No. 4 ranked Marymount.

Gregor Watson earned the Red Lion men’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week honor for the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The senior defender from Duns, Scotland was an important part of the Battlin’ Bears defense, while additionally scoring the game winning goal against Briar Cliff in the waning minutes of the match.
