BUTTE – Christmas might have been Tuesday, but the Montana Tech men’s basketball team was back in the gym Wednesday in preparation for their Frontier Conference showdown with rival Carroll College.

The Diggers will travel to Helena on Saturday, where they’ll put their 11-3 overall record and 1-1 conference record on the line against the 13-1 and third-ranked team in the nation. Tech head coach Adam Hiatt and company believe their mixture of a depth and chemistry will make Montana Tech a tough play, not only for Carroll but for everyone in the Frontier.

“We’re a strength in numbers, no question, that’s what we are, especially on the defensive end of the floor. That’s been our biggest strength,” Hiatt said. “We’re a really good defensive team. We have a lot of versatility, and when we have numbers and we can bring that defensive pressure in waves, it helps us on the offensive side, because we can get out and get some easy baskets and we can stay fresh on the offensive end.”

“Just the chemistry, man. Everyone’s playing a lot better this year than last year, and it’s just a lot easier out there, especially everyone’s hanging out, everyone gets along. It makes it much easier,” said sophomore forward Derrius Collins.
