BUTTE – The Montana Tech Women’s basketball team has exceeded all expectations in the early part of the season. The Diggers were picked to finish seventh in the preseason conference rankings, but early success may have some people paying more attention to Montana Tech.
The Lady Orediggers sit at 10-3 overall as they head into their short Christmas break after an exhibition with the University of Montana Thursday. The tough task coming up for the Diggers will be jumping back into a full schedule of conference games for the rest of the season once the break is over. They’ll have a tough Carroll College squad to play up in Helena on Dec. 29, but head coach Carly Sanon is liking what she has seen so far this year.
“We’ve really focused the last two and a half weeks on us, the Montana Tech Orediggers,” Sanon said. “What’s going to be our identity? Who are we? What are we trying to do? One of the things is we’re going to compete in everything, and everyday in practice it has been a war. It’s the white team against the black team, and who’s going to win and we’re running, and we’ve been really competing. And I really like where we’re at.”
