BUTTE – Montana Tech is hosting the Big Sky Volleyball Challenge for the third straight year with matches being played on three different courts at the Butte Civic Center on Friday and Saturday. The two-day tournament features 28 matches and starts Friday at 9 a.m. and concludes Saturday evening.

The tournament features teams from Montana, California, Oregon, Idaho, Iowa, Indiana, Nebraska and North Dakota. Several schools from the Frontier Conference will be in attendance. The competition at the tournament continues to grow as five teams are ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.

Montana Tech is currently ranked No. 14 in the NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, the highest ranking under Coach Brian Solomon who is entering his seventh season for the Orediggers. The Diggers are coming off back-to-back trips to the NAIA National Tournament after a 28-year drought and the first Frontier Conference championship since 1990.

The Orediggers face Evergreen State College and College of Idaho on Friday at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. On Saturday, Montana Tech plays Northwest University at 11 a.m. and UC Merced at 5 p.m.

Tickets for the event are $10 for each day. Children 12 and under are free.
