Two Carroll College athletes take conference player of the week awards

HELENA — Carroll College’s Samantha Mundel and Talya Vaira earned athlete of the week honors, the Frontier Conference and Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Monday.

Mundel, a senior from Columbia Falls, is the women’s cross country runner of the week in the Frontier. It’s the second consecutive week Mundel has earned the distinction. Mundel finished seventh out of 48 runners in the 5K at the MSU Invite in Bozeman. Mundel crossed the finish line in 17 minutes, 47 seconds.

Vaira is the women’s soccer offensive player of the week in the CCC. The senior midfielder from Great Falls scored two goals in the final two minutes to help Carroll force overtime against 19th-ranked Eastern Oregon. The Saints and Mountaineers played to a 3-3 draw.
