HELENA — The Carroll College men’s soccer team fell to Eastern Oregon University 4-0 on a sun-filled Sunday afternoon at Nelson Stadium in front of 250 fans. The Saints fell to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in Cascade Conference play.

The Saints maintained the tempo in the first half outshooting the Mountaineers 9-6; yet found themselves trailing 2-0 at the break with Eastern Oregon goals in the fourth and 23rd minute of action. Eastern Oregon (4-1-1, 2-0) outshot the Saints 11-6 in the second half, adding two more goals in the 55th and 74th minutes.

“We played a bit soft at times and never got a flow to the game that we could build upon and thus we got beat,” Saints coach Doug Mello said. “We can pull from the game the fact that we have to be a more consistent squad on both sides of the field and get rid of those small gaps that another team can take advantage of. The atmosphere was there but we just weren’t up for the task.”

The Saints resume action on the pitch next weekend in Oregon for a pair of conference games in which they face Corban University on Friday, Sept. 21st at 4:30 p.m. The men’s squad then travels to Northwest Christian University on Saturday for a showdown at 8 p.m.
