GREAT FALLS, Mont. – University of Providence Men’s Basketball Head Coach Steve Keller’s “recruit Montana” strategy is taking a specifically local turn with the signing of Great Falls High star Kendall Kynett. Kynett is the fourth Montana prospect to sign with UP since Keller’s hire and fifth overall member of the team’s 2018 Recruiting Class.

“We are very excited that Kendall Kynett has committed to join our basketball program,” Keller said. “Kendall is very strong and athletic. He can bounce the ball and get to the rack as well as being able to hit the 3-point shot. We look forward to watching his progress.”

Like Keller’s other in-state signings, Kynett is an All-State player after leading the Bison to a third place finish at the state tournament in 2018. Not only was the 6-2 guard a Class AA All-State selection for his overall performance in his senior year, but he also came through in the postseason, being named to the All-Tournament team.

During his senior year, Kynett averaged 12.7 ppg and 5 rpg. Like all of Keller’s recruits so far, he can shoot from distance, making 36 percent of his attempts from three. He also can drive the lane and get to the line, shooting 115 free throws on the year.

Kynett will be the second player from GFHS on the UP roster, joining current junior guard Jacob Wetzel. He said that a slew of factors contributed to his choosing UP, including Keller’s hire, and the advantages of playing in his hometown, but he also mentioned the momentum that the school’s recent rebranding has created in the community.

“There are a lot more people around the town talking about UP and everything that the school has been doing,” Kynett said. “I think it makes sense for me to stay here and I think it’s an exciting time for the program.”
