GREAT FALLS, Mont. – More Montana talent is coming to University of Providence men’s basketball, with the signing of Trent Mikalatos from Anaconda. The 6-7 lefty is the fourth player to sign with the Argos since the hiring of Steve Keller as the head coach, and the third in-state recruit.

He becomes the second recruit to follow Keller from Western to Providence, following Belgrade’s Dawson Fowler, after originally signing with the Bulldogs in September.

“We are very excited that Trent has decided to join our Argo basketball program. He is long, athletic, can shoot the three, and can also defend and block shots,” Keller said. “We believe Trent’s best basketball is ahead of him. We look forward to watching his progress in the Frontier Conference.”

While at Anaconda, Mikalatos was a two-time All-State selection and led the Copperheads to some of the best seasons in program history. In 2016-17, Anaconda went to the Class B State Championship Game with a 17-10 record, the school’s best since 1989. That record was broken the next year, as the Copperheads went 18-7 in Mikalato’s senior season.

As a senior, the forward averaged 16.7 ppg, 8.9 rpg, and 3.3 bpg. Not only did his height and athleticism lead to points, but so did his shooting, hitting 31 3-point shots throughout the season. He put up similar numbers as a junior, averaging 13 ppg with 33 made threes.

The signing of Mikalatos gives the Argos two of the 10 players selected for the Montana-Wyoming All-Star Game with Fowler also selected for the contest. UP’s third in-state signing, Jaxen Hashley played in the 2017 Montana-Wyoming All-Star game before playing a year of football with Montana State University.
