EUGENE, Ore. – The Carroll College Softball team split with Northwest Christian Tuesday, winning the first game, a conference game 1-0 before dropping the non-conference finale 4-3 in nine innings.

The first game was a pitching duel. Brooke Brown allowed just one hit in the complete game win.

The Saints picked up just one run, but it would be enough. In the second inning, Jaylin Kenney singled to left field and Brittany Smith scored from second base.

Carroll held on for the one-run win.

Brown moved to 3-3 on the year and struck out three while walking five. Anna ApRoberts went 2-3 and Kenney and Smith added a hit each.

In the second game, the Beacons jumped out with a pair of runs in the second inning. Carroll responded with a run in the second on a Smith double to score Megan McCormick. In the third, Brooke Yarnall scored on a stolen base to tie the game at two.

It would remain tied through seven innings. In the eighth, the Saints scored when Yarnall doubled to centerfield to score Brooke Brewer, giving Carroll the 3-2 lead, but Northwest Christian responded with a run in the eighth and a walk-off single in the ninth to pick up the win.

The win in the first game, combined with two Monday, gave Carroll the conference series sweep, the Saints are now 5-4 in league play and 17-9 overall.

Carroll plays Eastern Oregon Thursday and Friday in La Grande to close out the eight-game week.
