KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Seven Frontier Conference men’s basketball players were recently named NAIA Division I scholar athletes. Six of the seven originally hail from the state of Montana.

Bozeman’s Oliver Carr and Great Falls’ Matt Wyman were each recognized for Carson Cunningham’s Carroll College squad. Carr and Wyman played key roles in helping the Fighting Saints advance to a third NAIA national tournament this past week.

Montana Western also advanced to the national championships, falling in the quarterfinal round of eight on Saturday. Livingston’s Marcus Payne and Missoula’s Riley King were named scholar athletes for Steve Keller’s Bulldogs.

Butte’s Kale Guldseth and Montana Tech teammate Chris O’Neill of Pleasonton, California were scholar athlete representatives for the Orediggers, while Missoula’s Devin Bray was an honoree at MSU-Northern.

In order to be nominated by an institution, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended two full years as a non-transfer or one full year as a transfer.
