GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Montana high school basketball continues to be good to the University of Providence women’s basketball team, as a third star player from the state has signed with the Lady Argos for the 2018 Recruiting Class.

That third player is Cascade High School guard Raija Buley, who joins Havre High School’s Marca Herron, and Great Falls High School’s Molly Schmitz as Montanans to sign with UP.

“Raija has been coming to our camps for a number of years and we have gotten to know her and I am excited she chose us,” Head Coach Bill Himmelberg said. “She is a great student and will make a great impact on our campus with her academic. We also love how hard Raija works on the basketball court. She has had an outstanding high school career and is a great addition to our program.”

While at Cascade High School, Buley has been a key member of both the school’s girl’s basketball and girl’s volleyball teams. She has also run and thrown as a member of the track & field team.

As a basketball player, she put together an impressive resume. In 2017, she was named First Team All-Conference, Team Offensive MVP, and Team Captain. That came along with a great statistical year as she averaged 14 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.8 spg, and 3 apg as a senior. She was also named Second Team All-Conference as a junior.

Along with being a standout player, Buley is an outstanding student that has made the Academic Honor Roll all four years of high school. She plans to be a Secondary Education Major at UP.

“I chose the University of Providence because they have a great academic program with people that are willing to help you achieve your highest success,” Buley said. “Also, because of the great coaching staff and a great group of girls who love the game. I am really excited to be part of this team and honored for this opportunity.”
