HELENA – It’s been a long season for the Carroll College women’s basketball team and last night all their hard work payed off. For now.

The Saints clinched the outright Frontier Conference Championship last night with a 49-42 win over Lewis Clark State. Locking up the top spot in the Frontier Tournament next week. Now this is only the next step on the Saint’s march to the national tournament. But for right now there is only one way to describe their feeling.

“Pure happiness,” said smiling senior Michaela Dowdy. “We’re just so grateful for it. We put in all the time and effort and all the pre season. Running up Guad Hill, those Guad Hills definitely, haha. Workouts at 6:00 AM, practices. We’ve definitely put in the work and we definitely deserve it. We’re just all so happy. It’s just unbelievable, it’s awesome.”

“It’s just exciting, it’s kind of surreal,” added junior Hannah Dean. “Everyone counted us out at the beginning no one wanted to talk about us. So it was nice to go out and prove that we’re meant to be here. We’re excited to keep pushing though. Tonight was one step forward into the rest of the season. And we’re hoping it’s going to be a long rest of the season.”

The Saints are back at home Saturday against Western. And that will be the chance for the Carroll Men to win their Frontier title if they can stop the Bulldogs.
