DILLON — Coming into Wednesday night, there were few basketball teams in the country hotter than Montana Western’s women.

The Montana Tech Orediggers proved that they aren’t into statistics.

The Oredigger women went into Dillon and pulled off one of their biggest upsets in the season in a 70-65 win over the Bulldogs. Montana Tech snapped a six-game losing skid while putting an end to Western’s nine-game winning streak.

Tech used solid 3-point shooting to its advantage, shooting 6-of-15 (40 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Bulldogs made just three out of its 16 attempts (19 percent). The Diggers were paced by Kourtney Coverdell’s 15 points and Sammy McGree’s 12 points.

Western’s Brianna King led all scorers with 28 points. Britt Cooper added 18 for the Bulldogs and Sierra Bignell scored 10. King, Cooper, and Bignell made 21 of the team’s 24 field goals.

The win improves Montana Tech’s record to 4-11 in Frontier Conference play and 14-13 overall. Montana Western falls to 10-5 in conference and 20-7 overall.
