Nate Dick’s return to Billings highlights Rocky recruiting class

BILLINGS – Rocky Mountain College has been busy. The Battlin’ Bears are bringing in 43 new football recruits in 2018 – 36 freshman and seven mid-year transfers, and one in the latter category is the most intriguing.

Former Billings Senior star Nate Dick is already enrolled and working out with Rocky after transferring from the Montana Grizzlies in December. Dick originally chose Montana over the Bears a couple weeks after his senior season despite a hard recruitment from Rocky head coach Jason Petrino and his staff.

That paid off two months ago when Dick heard he’d get a shot at his favored quarterback position.

“I kind of just said, ‘Hey, man, we had a senior quarterback go down with an ACL tear, and had a true freshman that played a lot snaps and played well. There’s no guarantee, but I’ll give you a guarantee to come in and have an opportunity to compete,’ and I think that’s all he wanted,” said Petrino.

“Between the relationship we built and the honesty, his comfort being here and wanting to be in Billings played a big part. And obviously he’s in our program right now lifting and busting his tail, and he’s definitely impressed a lot of the guys in our program.”
